Eagle Dinner

Eagle Career Dinner, Hotel Yorktowne, York, PA

22 May 2002

An annual tradition of the York-Adams Area Council that goes back many years is to hold a dinner at the Hotel Yorktowne for all Scouts of the Council who have achieved the rank of Eagle in the preceding year.  Skipper Kain attended his Eagle Dinner in this same place in 1963, and was extremely proud to be able to attend his son's Eagle Dinner here on 22 May 2002.

On Wednesday, May 22nd, the York Adams Area Council recognized the Eagle Scout Class of 2001 with a Career Day Banquet and Reception. The Council Advancement Committee, comprised of the District Advancement Committees, matched 61 of the 105 Eagle Scouts who participated with business leaders in a profession of which they'd like to pursue. The Eagle Scout's sponsor entertained the Eagle Scout at his/her place of business before traveling to the special reception preceding dinner. The special reception of cheeses, crackers, vegetables and fruit punch entertained the everyone as parents, guardians and friends joined the festivities. The Eagle Scouts and guests were also entertained by string ensembles, an Eagle Sculpture, and a "Live" Eagle for photo opportunities.

After the meal, the evening's MC Brian Kline introduced three Eagle Scout speakers (Paul Than, Troop 59, Brandon Zimmerman, Troop 27, Andrew Herron, Troop 690 and the night's Keynote Speaker, John Brenner, Mayor, City of York (Eagle Scout, Troop 31, Mt Wolf). Afterwards, each Eagle Scout was presented an Eagle Scout Belt Buckle by his sponsor and in turn presented a hand painted porcelain Eagle to his sponsor. Everyone in attendance received the 2001 Eagle Scout Directory. Following the Eagle Scout Charge everyone was entertained with a final closing of various Eagle Scout project photos set to music.

Special thank you to Shaver's Creek Environmental Center, Ream Printing, The Yorktowne Hotel, and Central York High School, for supporting the 241 Eagle Scouts, business leaders and family in attendance.
